Artist: Corinthia Cromwell & The Evolution Band Song: All Things CD: Peace Of Mind Outside The Lines Genre: gospel Label:Mo' Music Homepage
Adding to Gospel & Urban Formats!!!!
From the beginning, Corinthia Cromwell’s career has been blessed.
In the early ‘90s, Cromwell received parts in major motion pictures like Spike Lee’s Malcolm X and Reginald Hudlin’s Boomerang. In 2007, Cromwell opened up for and performed onstage with Grammy-winning saxophonist Kirk Whalum. Now with her group the Evolution Band, Cromwell has released Peace of Mind Outside the Lines, an album that seamlessly marries her twin affections for Gospel and jazz. The record is actually separated into two sides – one of spiritually uplifting praise and worship, one of silky soft jazz. Think of it in terms of vinyl; flip it over and another world is waiting.
Given how it is arranged, it’s quite an ambitious project. Many artists do not have the courage to attempt such a clear division of genres on the same record. But for Cromwell the album is an extension of a lifelong love for music that began in her adolescence, when he she discovered the power of the saxophone. “While at Frederick Douglass High School in Baltimore, Maryland, I became intrigued with the saxophone,” Cromwell recalled. “I was a classical clarinetist at the time, and during my junior year, the jazz band had an opening for a saxophonist. I asked the band director at the school if I could borrow a saxophone over the holiday break. During the break, I practiced playing with and studying the instrument. When I returned to school after the Christmas break, I auditioned for the second chair. According to the band director because I had demonstrated such promise, he placed me in the first chair. From that experience I decided that I wanted to learn more about the instrument and grow in the knowledge of mastering it and the many sounds it produced.”
On the CD, especially during the Gospel tracks, Cromwell and her Evolution Band can really generate a sound big enough to fill arenas. However, just like the group’s name, the Evolution Band has changed with time, with members shifting. “The current list of musicians are: Justin Taylor on keyboards, William Allen on drums, David Phillips on bass, and Kevin Jackson on guitar,” Cromwell said. “The Evolution Band started out in 2000 under the name of the Upfront Band featuring Corinthia Cromwell. In 2005, the name was changed to Corinthia Cromwell and the Evolution Band to reflect the new direction in which our music had developed and was heading.”

To hear the small singer with the big voice (Hobbs is only 5'1" tall), it's hard to believe there is a shy bone in her body. But according to Hobbs, singing is very personal and she does it for an audience of one, regardless to how many people are in the room. "I admire people who like singing just to sing," she says. "But for me, I love the one I'm singing to and that's why I do it. My passion for creating melodies is borne out of my passion for God."
And when it comes to creating melodies, Hobbs is a stellar songwriter. Amazingly, her compositions are developed outside of the studio first, with only a pen, pad, and her voice. "I guess I have an inverted songwriting approach. Some people might say it's backwards depending on who you talk to," she continues. "I'll hear a completed composition in my head first. Lyrics, melody, and even some elements of music. So I'll sing it in a recorder, format the song, and then I'll ask my producer to create a track that interprets what I'm hearing." After the track is finished, Hobbs sings all her own background vocals, and typically, does her own arranging from start to finish.
That's just the kind of woman she is. Independent, driven, and certain of her identity. Now, she has to re-introduce herself to those who don't yet identify with her artistry. "I know it's not always easy for others who know me specifically for my work with EEW Magazine to embrace something new. And even with the platform God has given me, I don't make the assumption that everyone will feel connected to my music. But I also know that, whoever it is for, no matter the size of that group, will be blessed by it."
Gone are the days when Hobbs fed into that deep-rooted hesitance to break out of her shell. "These songs God has given to me demand to be sung," she says, "I know the music is not written for me to sing to myself at home. Someone needs to hear what the Lord has given to me."
Finally, this artist is ready to release all the original tunes that have been smothered by business suits, conferences, meetings, and numerous duties at EEW Magazine.

Artist: Lone SoulJah Song: Pray (DJ Disciple 21 Worship Mix) CD: Burden Of Knowledge Genre: urban/hiphop/reggae Label:New Genre Entertainment Group Homepage
GOING FOR IMMEDIATE ADDS!!!!
LoneSoulJAH:
Born N'gai Canute-Tyree Washington, the man known as LoneSoulJAH Has worn quite a few hats in the music industry but the one that seems to fit him best is that of artist. The New York born, South Florida native started his relationship with music at the tender age of ten when he freestyled his first rhyme in the lunchroom of Fairway elementary school. Since then he has gone on to be an accomplished DJ under the name DJ Disciple 21, taking on duties spinning records in both mainstream and underground radio, nightclubs, international television as well as concert venues and organized festivals.
During this period He would also get his 1st glimpse of the inner workings of the urban music market while working for Reggae music distribution giant VP Records. The opportunity taught him the ins and outs of the record business as well as allowing him to form relationships with a large network of artists and radio personalities…
Having paid his dues as a Manager at VP, a DJ and a television host, a spiritual awakening called him away from the music industry for a period of five years. Having seen 1st hand the negative effects of the socially irresponsible lyrical content of the music he was playing, he decided to permanently retire from his duties as a disc jokey.
It was during this hiatus that he realized his true calling was to create an alternative to the music that was choking the airwaves of urban radio and television. With this calling on his heart, he and two co-workers co-founded a gospel rap group called the FootSoulJahs. The trio began to write and record music with Mentor, Producer and Gospel singer Win "Uncle Win" Tompkins. Soon after recording began the three were well received as they performed at numerous church shows and events ministering to the impressionable young Hip-Hop generation. Only about a year after the group began they disbanded to pursue individual projects.
Now a solo act, He took on the title of LoneSoulJAH signifying his emancipation from the group and began recording his premier project with Win Tompkins and Hip-Hop producer Walter "2Nice" Vega. Liberated from the restraints of the group, LoneSoulJAH found himself able to write and express his thoughts freely without compromise. This has brought about a variety of expression whether it be spiritual, political, satirical or extremely personal, his creativity seems to know no bounds!
Jumping from rapping to singing or chanting in Jamaican patois in a heartbeat it's hard to predict what you'll hear next from this dynamically gifted writer and performer. At home on the stage, LoneSoulJAH has rocked the crowd everywhere from humble churches to packed stage shows for a broad diversity of music lovers increasing the demand for his performances each time.
LoneSoulJAH's 1st solo project "The Burden of Knowledge", A hybrid of Hip-Hop, Reggae, Gospel and R&B is now near completion. The album is set to be released by the newly formed NEW GENRE ENTERTAINMENT GROUP record label in early 2009. With this incredible compilation, LoneSoulJAH is poised to take an unsuspecting music world by storm! The charismatic, uncompromising performer credits GOD for his gifts and has no plans on taking them for granted…

Artist: Mel Holder Song: In The Sanctuary CD: Music Book Volume 1 Genre: jazz/ac/urban Label:Psalmist Music Group Homepage
IMPACTING URBAN, AC & JAZZ FORMATS NOW!!
Mel Holder's ministry flows from his relationship with the Lord. He clearly celebrates the gifts given to him as heard in his 1999 release, Now & Forever The Continuation. This jazz/gospel project made its presence known on Billboard's Top Contemporary Christian Chart. Mel's 2000 Christmas project, A Gift So Special, can be enjoyed year-round, featuring uplifting renditions of Little Drummer Boy and Silent Night. Currently, more than one hundred radio stations nationally have these projects in rotation.
Mel's identification with Christ and his submission of God\'s gift have brought him to minister with such artists as Fred Hammond, Vickie Winans, Timothy Wright, Nancey Jackson, Trinitee 5:7, Angelo and Veronica, and Kurt Carr. In addition, he has appeared on The Candi Stanton Show, which is part of Trinity Broadcasting Network. In 1997, he was nominated for a Grammy with Sister Carrol for her album "Lyrically Potent".
Mel enjoys his international ministry but understands that he is a servant for the Lord. Recently he began sharing his views on creative arts ministry authoring; Serving vs. Starring and Ministry vs. Industry featured articles in Gospel Synergy. Mel will continue to write about the heart of a servant and truly serving in God's will and anticipates compiling his thoughts into a book very soon.
In addition to writing, opening doors for other talented Christian artists is a desire of Mel's. Utilizing his gifts as a producer, he's done projects for dedicated artists including Larry and Marrissa Felder, Lanee Battle, Inger Reid, Gary Anglin, and Billy & Sarah Gaines. Mel's church home is in New York under the leadership of Dr. Rev. A.R. Bernard, Sr. At New York Christian Life Centre. Rev. Bernard teaches how to apply God's word on a practical level. Mel serves at CLC understanding that his "talent is secondary to his standing and walk with the Lord.
In the new millenium, Mel renewed his commitment to minister for the upliftment of orphaned children. He has sown seeds through his work with the United Global Mission Alliance (UGMA) in the depths of Russia where he ministered to many orphanages. This year, UGMA will continue to bring the gospel to Venezeula and other countries.
Artist: GJ Song: Did You Know CD: The Debut Genre: urban Label:Independent Homepage
URBAN FORMATS!!! GJ, Boston native recording artist, was scheduled to work with some of music industry’s biggest artists, managers, and producers when a destined encounter with one of his favorite music producers, Rodney Jerkins, caused him to put his projects on hold. The Christian R&B artist, who's been compared to the likes of Justin Timberlake, NeYo and Michael Jackson, was reminded of the need to be sold out to Christ first before embarking on his many music projects. After 10 years of producing tracks, this decision would prove to be the turning point in GJ’s young music career.
Focusing on relationship rather than religion, accessible lyrics and dance tracks rather than predictable and monotonous melodies, GJ\'s sound is both ground breaking and refreshing to the gospel music scene. On stage, his passion captivates his audience with every note and every move. It was that buzz around GJ that garnered invitations to perform at local churches, outreach programs as well as some of the major universities in Massachusetts, including UMass Boston, UMass Amherst and Tufts University, to name a few. GJ's inaugural album, The Debut, was released on January 15, 2009.

BenJah's album "Filtered" is a melting pot of acoustic influenced hip hop with strong elements of rock and reggae. IMPACTING URBAN FORMATS NOW!!!!
Since the day he gave his life to God, Freddy Gonzalez has understood the power of worship through song. “Before Christ I didn’t sing or write songs. I surrendered myself and God opened the world to me. The trees and grass were greener, the flowers more fragrant. His presence became my life. One day I opened my mouth to worship Him and there it was-the song of my heart.” In the song entitled “David”, Freddy Gonzalez brings to light the emotion and power behind the psalmist’s words.
“Before reading anything else in the Bible I read the Psalms. David’s honesty and love for the Lord made a tremendous impact on me. His songs are scripture, they will last forever.” Freddy Gonzalez loves the presence of the Lord. He believes that God is moved as His people lift their voices and lives in worship. This is his passion. He invites you to join him.

ADDING NOW TO JAZZ & AC FORMATS!
I have been playing the guitar since as early as I can remember. My father taught me how to play and I haven't put the guitar down since. When my father passed away there were many other people that came into my life that were instrumental in shaping my musical style. As I grew older, I was privileged to play with some of the most talented musicians in Rochester, New York, and these experiences began to largely shape my songs.
Song writing became a passion of mine as a young teenager. When I was 19, I distinctly remember sitting at a Phil Wickham (National Christian recording artist) concert and thinking, "Wow, I would love to do what he is doing up on stage." From that point on it was almost as if God began giving me songs to write. I have heard comparisons of my music to those of artists such as: Shawn Mcdonald, Matt Kearney, Jack Johnson, and Jason Mraz, to name a few.
Like most artists, it is nearly impossible to continue in your craft without the support and encouragement from friends and listeners. I guess I got my start just playing in my friends house for anyone that was over and wanted to hear. As I began to meet more and more people, the overwhelming positive feedback is what kept pushing me to keep writing and performing. I have been blessed to have crossed paths with people that have generously offered their services (website, myspace, booking shows, etc.).
I want to be known as someone that writes about stuff that matters. Nothing makes me happier than when someone comes up to me to say, "Your music really inspires me to..." As long as God continues to inspire me to write, I am going to try to inspire others.
Alache, a twenty five year old singer/ songwriter, has always known the incredible power of music. Growing up as the Daughter of her father, a military officer and her mother, an international evangelist, she quickly learned the importance of having a strong message behind her music. While most were learning to talk at the age of 1 she was already singing her heart out.
Alache represents a new breed of inspirational pop/urban music. Her vision is to reach out to a lost generation, to become a shining light in the midst of darkness. With influences such as Miriam Makeba, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Areatha Franklin and many more, Alache adapted the soul of the old and blended it with the flare of the new. Her style is unique to say the least. Her sound is as rich and as colorful as the culture that runs through her veins.
Alache is African for "watchlady", and leading the youth of the world with a positive and uplifting message is exactly what she aims to do through every song she writes. Ever since the first time she stepped into the booth she knew that music was her calling. The path that has chosen her has been a long journey and is far from over. With her new cd she has finally found that perfect mix of commercially appealing music, laced with the genuinely earthy substance of her soul.
Truth, Love, and honesty are what make Alache stand out in this crowded industry of fake smiles and misleading music. Remembering her past she brings you a soulful blend of yesterday and looking to the future she brings a sound that will define a new era of R&B Music.

Artist: J-CLX Song: Night Out CD: The Long Shot - EP Genre: urban Label:Independent Homepage
FIRST OFF I WOULD LIKE TO THANK MY BEAUTIFUL WIFE JASSICA FOR HER SUPPORT...THANKS BABE FOR SHOWING ME GOD'S LOVE
I'm J-CLX(J-CLIX) a Hiphop artist my aim is to get another ear to hear me out, trying to get another spirit to believe in my music as much as I do. I was born in Toronto, Canada in 1983, with Jamaican and English parents. I grew up listening to R&B and Reggae. As I entered my teens I started to form a passion for hip hop, however it wasn't till I was 19 that I would decide to devote my whole life to making music.
I worked really hard to become better and better everyday. Writing late at night when I got home from work and many times I re-wrote songs or threw them away if I didn't think they were a hit single.
When I was 21 I started to get some breaks. I was awarded a VideoFact grant for a music video and that year my video was playing on much Vibe, my song was playing on local radio stations and I had just finished my album. That all changed when I met a guy named Bree and he introduced me to Jesus Christ.
My world was flipped upside down and though it was hard, I knew I could no longer persue the type of music that I was currently making. It really hurt me, I put a lot of hardwork, sweat, time and A LOT OF MONEY, but I had to trust God.
I realized I would rather know the true God than continue living a lie with my music. I scrapped my album and at the time it was heartbreaking, but I later found out it would be more than worth it. In 2005 I got married and in 2006 I had my son, Silas. I didn't know how everything would turn out, adding more to my life while still trying to make it in the music industry.
However God is training me to trust him and he hasn't let me down and I know he won't. Now I'm on track with better music now then even before and I'm doing it with God.

IMPACTING URBAN & HIPHOP NOW!!!
Tommy Kyllonen, also known as Urban D. (Disciple) to his music fans, founded the youth ministry at Tampa, Fla.-based Crossover Community Church in 1996. Starting with just four teens, he and his wife developed a first-of-its-kind Hip-Hop Youth Ministry which over the span of six years grew to 200, far outpacing attendance in the main Sunday worship. In January 2002, Tommy became the lead pastor at Crossover and a new vision was birthed to specifically reach the Hip-Hop Culture.
Crossover Community Church became Purpose-Driven in their structure and began to truly engage the culture in their community. Tommy carefully incorporated music, dance, visual arts, media and relevant messages into the worship context and campus without compromising the truth of God’s word. The ministry has seen incredible growth as Crossover’s weekend attendance jumped from 40 to over 400 in less than four years. The youth services reach hundreds more as the church campus has become a haven for the community youth.
Tommy also pioneered an annual Hip-Hop/urban ministries conference called Fla.vor Fest. The event, now in its seventh year, has attracted thousands of pastors, youth pastors, lay leaders and artists from around the world to the musical festival and conference to fellowship, network and get equipped to better reach this culture. Due to the momentum of the three-day conference, The INSP Network filmed the event and concerts and has released two double-disc DVD sets that are available in Christian stores nationwide. Tommy also hosts the “Fla.vor Fest Hip-Hop Series” TV show on INSP that reaches 48 million homes in the U.S.

URBAN & HIPHOP!
True to the original form of Hip- Hop, Mahogany Jones began as a poet. Raised in Mt. Vernon, New York, it was from the age of thirteen she began to compile hundreds of poems scribbled in composition notebooks. It wasn't until 96', during her first year of college, that in a small cafe called the Brooklyn Moon, that she began to hone the art of the Spoken Word by sharing mics with the likes of Saul Williams, Mums the Schemer, Sarah Jones, and several others. From then on she took theater classes, read countless poetry books, and in addition thrived on the poetic genius of em-cees from the underground.
Livin' in the heart of BK and being the avant garde village rat she was is what introduced her to J-Live, Jean Grae, Stronghold, and a slew of emcee's whose verbal dexterity was deadly. Mahogany states "I caught the bug- It was my dream to rock the mic."
Artist: Dre Marshall Song: 9 to 5 (Featuring Canton Jones) CD: Room 819 Genre: hiphop Label:Independent Homepage
Dre Marshall lives out these words “It’s not a career…It’s a Movement” when he describes his artistry in Christian Hip-Hop. Dre Marshall exhibits music as a device to illustrate his passion for promoting the Gospel from eclectic, rhythmic poetic flows to the pulsating urban tracks resonating behind his words. Dre Marshall hails from Rochester, NY, but calls South Florida his home.
Dre Marshall began his journey of Hip Hop invention in 1997 when he was poet for a group called The Prafitz. In the summer of 2000, Dre came to the realization that music had become his first love and progressed into the direction of writing and producing his very first song, “Who is He” and followed with a catch tune titled “Keep It Gata”. As his zeal ignited, Dre was about to enter a ride that would not only change his life but the lives of others.
In August of 2000 Dre left Upstate New York and headed to World Harvest Bible College where he concentrated on the fundamental teachings of the Gospel, this would later become the foundation of this fresh movement. For the next two years, Dre encountered hardships that would not only make him a man, but solidify his faith in Christ. As Dre Marshall stepped into the scene, many began to take notice of his explosive messages.
Dre’s budding sounds traveled the airwaves to fans and music connoisseurs such as Canton Jones, Prodigal Son, St. Matthew, Papa San, Kristine Alicia, 2Five, D-Lo and many others. He has also been invited to collaborate with these artists on various projects. Dre has contributed to The Prafitz “Nazarene Moments”, “Just Like Fire” the soundtrack, Kurtiz Blow presents “Hip Hop Ministry”, Prodigal Son’s “Rhythm and Street” and “My Block”, J Blaze’s “Christ-mas in Miami Nice City”, and a host of other underground mixtapes and compilations.
Dre has been infecting the airways with hits such as “Sista” paying homage to women, “For this Mic” which depicts his uncompromising character for the music industry, “We Won’t Stop” fueling motivation to strive for distinction, and his current single “Call ‘Em Out” which encourages accountability for our fellow man. In a time when rap music has become predictable and stagnant, a young Midwest artist known as “Lyrycyst” stands as a breath of fresh air.
In 2007, Steven Cooper (aka Lyrycyst) stormed onto the mainstream music scene with his remarkable debut album “Masquerade”. The album was raved upon by media outlets throughout the globe and even coined in it’s own genre “Alternative Rap”. With the success of his debut single and music video for “Showbiz”, (featured on the Hip Hope 2008 Compilation and hailed as one of the best rap singles of the year) Lyrycyst has quickly established himself as a prominent new face among rap/rock/and pop circles alike.
Lyrycyst, born Steven Cooper on the outskirts of Kansas City, Missouri, knows all about overcoming life’s obstacles. Steven was raised by his 15 year old single mother. After having two more children, his mother found herself trapped in an abusive marriage which eventually escalated out of control, often leaving the kids to watch the violence in disbelief. After leaving the relationship, the family was forced on the run, living out of hotel rooms, safe houses and even their family vehicle, as the ex-husband searched to find them. With an eighth grade education and very little money to put food on the table, Lyrycyst's mother was forced to become a strip-dancer to pay the bills. The party atmosphere quickly led to a drug addiction, which continually grew to a $2,000 a week habit and sent the rest of the family on a downward spiral of depression, violence and heartbreak.
However, the road to recovery for the entire family would soon be in sight thanks to one of Lyrycyst's old classmates and former party buddies, who stepped out on a limb and invited him to church. After hearing the name of Jesus for the very first time, 18 year old Steven Cooper made a commitment to follow what he had heard and in one year saw his entire family radically changed as he helped each one of them make the same decision. It was during this time that Lyrycyst dove head first into his passion for music and watched as his dreams unfolded before his eyes. \"I had a lot of friends in high school - black guys who were really into the hip-hop scene. They always used to work on hiphop music and criticized me because I was white.
Eventually one of them dared me to write a rap song as a joke. But instead of joking, I decided to honestly try my hand at it. I was really trying to prove them wrong and change their stereotypes. It shouldn\'t have to do with color or race. If I write good music, if I make good music and if I have a message behind it then my race shouldn't matter. My friends were all shocked when I finally performed the rap I had wrote. In fact, they were so impressed with the lyrics that I was nicknamed “the lyricist” from that day forward.”
After more than 6 years of work and plenty of trials, Lyrycyst has taken that ‘dare’ all the way to a full time career, uprooting his life and his wife to tour the States. "I have been doing this full time for the past three years actually. And it has been rough. Don't let it fool you, it's not all glitz and glamour. The Christian music industry is a hard industry to be in. But it's worth it. The response I see, the impact I know, I can honestly say that everyday I am trying my hardest to make the most of it and make an impact on other people's lives. That's a thing that other people are so concerned with: getting financially wealthy first and then doing it. Well, that doesn't ever really happen; you can never get

INSPO ... AC & URBAN!
So here's a little bit about me. I love God. I've had the opportunity to lead worship in various places/events for a while now. As time continues to fly by, (I've been married for six years and have a beautiful little girl) it's sobering to consider where or who I would be if I hadn't given my life to Him. While moving forward, I remember to look back on a regular basis, and stay thankful. :-)
