Ryan and Walter met in their freshmen year of college. Through their common love for Jesus Christ and serving Him through music they quickly became friends - learning from one another and challenging each other toward excellence. While they both shared the dream of one day using their music to change the world, they separated to answer God\'s call to local church ministry.

After many years of serving the body of Christ as Worship Leaders, getting married and raising families, Ryan was moved to contact Walter about pursuing the dream they had both shared in college. It was at this time that they decided to seriously pursue using the musical abilities with which God had gifted them in a new way. Against The Slate was born from their desire to reach both secular and sacred communities with songs that share the hope they have found in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Soon after beginning this new journey, Walter contacted Eric - a friend and drummer - asking him to join ATS. A talented musician and servant of God for many years, Eric accepted. Now, moving forward as a part of New Vine Media, the three of them are making a difference for Christ in their local communities by sharing their songs and the stories behind them. Seeking, above all, to make Jesus famous.
