iTunes and downloading...
iTunes likes to "import" all files into its own directory. You can do this if you desire but you can also override this without degrading performance or features! Here's how: Can I still store my files in a specific location and import them into iTunes?
Yes!
  • Click on EDIT and PREFERENCES
  • Go to the ADVANCED tab
  • Uncheck the box "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library"
  • Click on OK
  • iTunes will automatically update your library!
Will I lose any functionality with iTunes by doing this?
Yes, iTunes will not be able to "automatically" know what is in your music library, however follow the steps below to regain that functionality:
  • Click on EDIT and PREFERENCES
  • Go to the ADVANCED tab
  • In the "iTunes Music Folder location:", Click on CHANGE
  • Navigate to the location you have set for where you are downloading and storing your music files.
  • Click on OK
  • iTunes will automatically update your library!
